PRESENTE DESNUDO/PRESENT NAKED

PRESENTE DESNUDO/NAKED PRESENT

El Presente (9na parte) The Present (9th part)

The Present (9th part)
So that’s how things were. Within two months my life changed radically: I was alone (although I was accompanied by my mother's sidekick, her assistant for several years, Micaela), without resources, with the issue of the house, the car debt and endless legal and bureaucratic formalities. I told you before that the only support I had at that moment was my grandmother (my mother's mother, who already has 88 years and is responsible for my aunt who has down syndrome and her  resources were finishing to maintain herself and her daughter, my aunt). The situation for me could not be described in any other way, it was an emergency. So I decided to write my father and ask him for the famous funds ($ 30,000 USD) to deal with all matters (home, car, probate, bureaucratic issues in Costa Rica and the issue of the pension of my mother in Mexico). Before coming to Costa Rica I visited my father in Xalapa, Mex., and when he went to leave me at the bus station, I commented that one of the things that scared me the most was to end homeless. He told me not to worry that in addition to life insurance, he had reserved for myself some savings (the 30k) and told me that my half brother would be in charge of the case. He even told me that I could dispose of those resources immediately.

I returned to Mexico City with my sister. I could not stop thinking how those savings would work. A thought came over me that if at some point if my father leave  how to proceed regarding those savings. Needless to say that money have shed so many families. So I took the plunge and asked him how that would work, that in matters of money you never know what can happen (to me is uncomfortable relying on the good will of a person who I just have seen some few times in my life). However, my father told me that my half brother has a good heart to trust and he told me again if I wanted that money right away.. I therefore trust his words and I said no, leave the money in that fund and that only in case of emergency I was going to ask for it.

The emergency appeared (I think we could all agree on that my dear readers). But my father said, "I have no moral responsibility in this matter." With 8 words he buried the trust we had worked so hard to build. Not even a year had passed when I could say the word "dad" out of my mouth . He was an absent father, the times I've seen him are really very few. He never gave my mother a pension for the support of my sister and I. I thought, making a play on words: "He had no moral authority to talk about responsibility." But at the time I was in a more or less "zen" state, so my reaction was simply to say that it was a misunderstanding, that I had thought otherwise. The thing is, it was very clear that I had no support, not even moral from him. In the following months, to date, he send me maybe 5 to 6 emails to check on me, that's all (the latter one was insulting to me, but we'll get to that point). My dark side was yelling to him: Hope you  enjoyed that money in your grave! or that he and his family use it when they please, hopefully not in a situation like mine. It was a fact, I didn't count with him, the truth I never did.

Going back to the house issue, and in retrospect, I feel that if I had been the guy who my mother made the purchase commitment and with a moral compass more or less functional (He and his family claim to be Catholic; He wears the virgin around his neck), I would have resolved, given the circumstances (my mother had only occupied the house for only six months and as that gentleman like to say she was “chinga” -“naked”,no money- because she spend all her savings in the house so the mr. could pay the debt that his son owed), for I would have offered to return the money minus a reasonable monthly rent for the 6 months we occupied the house. Surely that money had already been spent to cancel the debt of his son. So another strategy had to be follow. I tried to convince my brothers to continue to maintain the home and sell it to recover some of the investment, which was a good deal. But no, they did not want to make the sacrifice, nor have the resources to commit fully, I think. So, I was alone, without resources and material support from anyone, besides I had the personal battle to avoid falling into a crisis of depression or mania given the stress I was having and obviously for my bipolar condition. (to be continue).

El Presente (8va parte)/ The Present (8th part)

______________

The Present (8th part)

Folks, I've noticed that contextualize the Present of the last three years can not be summed up so easily. And I still have more than 40 years. Enterprise that I will take when I’m out of the present hurricane. I really hope to get out.

So, I’lll keep tellin you the story. My mother left so it was time to solve bureaucratic issues of death, autopsy, cremation, etc ... My sister had arrived from Mexico a few days before my mother's operation. The days we spent during the operation and the length of intensive care of my mother were of deep anxiety for everyone. I remember the last time I spoke to my mother. I spoke on Thursday morning before she was taken to the operation. I was half asleep, it was like 5 am and his tone sounded very happy, but a happiness kind of liberating, I felt at peace within  herself and I only managed to tell her that everything would be okay and that I loved her. After the call I had the feeling she was saying goodbye, she was not going to return, that she was being released from suffering, from everyday problems. Fortunately for the two, we had no unresolved conflicts, or resentment, we were at peace.

Well, the financial issues fuck again the existence. We had no money for the cremation and for other issues related. We did not know what to do and these issues need to be resolved in a matter of hours. At that time my sister had a boyfriend very nice and so supportive and saved us, he financed the cremation. So a beloved family member signed the cost of cremation with money that he had committed to pay some workers the following Monday. So without asking for anything, with a big heart, my sister boyfriend immediately deposited the money and we  returned the amount to my family member, who had taken the risk of paying my mother's cremation. We got lucky.

The issue of the cremation passed, my nephews came from Mexico and we organized a religious service and we hold a wake for my mother in her house that she had so lovingly decorated. She had studied professional decoration but never practiced. And in the six months she lived in her house she was very entertain decorating, fixing up the house to her liking. Those six months that she could enjoy the house gave her much happiness as I think it was here, in this house where she could best express her being. They were the best of times for her, obviously she had up and downs. Many of those days filled her with a deep financial stress and many resentments. She told me that she had gypsy blood and that's why she was so passionate and as manifested in his huge and beautiful heart, so did when she was invaded especially with negative emotions and concerns about money.
The vigil was very nice at home with  family. I did a "slide show" with a range of photos and put her favorite music. The act finished and  nothing, to face the reality of hes absence and all that remained unresolved, pending. Fortunately the day before my mother's interment, I collected my medication, continued with therapy, exercise and Yoga. I felt strong to meet the challenge. At first all the responsibility fell on me but I had the support of “La Generala”  (my Grandmother), but she is a woman of 88 years and had no resources to support the situation that was presented. On the other hand, I felt that my two brothers at that time had unresolved issues with my mother and did not want to assume, become involved in matters that my mother left pending. (to be continue).

PD. In July, I have to start paying the interest on the house and the  amount is $ 1.165 usd to spare more legal trouble. I've lost the business of the house, but a couple of people are interested in buying it, but they need time for them to get bank financing. Obviously I do not expect to recover the entire investment ($ 60,000 usd), but if at least a part that allows me to get out of the house and rent a decent space. So I ask you attentively if you can help with a donation, whatever, to raise that amount. Thank you for your solidarity!

El Presente (7ma parte)/The Present (7th Part)
*Dedicado a mi madre/Dedicated to my mother

Present (the 7th part) / The Present (7th Part)
Three months went by and my mother showed signs that something was very wrong with her health. My work in the multilevel started to reveal itself as a fraud: the official opening in Costa Rica  was postponing month after month. To date the company has not officially exist in Costa Rica. The business contradicted his slogan "It's easy, simple is coffee." It was neither simple, nor easy, it was a torture to collect the product, you had to have an address in the U.S., had to register with a fake "social security" and to finish scrubbing had to file taxes in the U.S.. The guy who brought the bussiness told us that Costa Rica was in the top of the list for the opening, but nothing, in many countries opened the business, but not in Costa Rica. I could not lie on my presentations and I reach my limit, I lost all confidence in the people who brought the business. At the end I could only get 3 people into the business and decided to stop promoting the business at least until it was officially in the country. So there was no inflow of resources, we lived of the amount that my father send me to become independent. But soon we ran out of that money. In late March we were without resources.

Back then I use to buy my meds in traditional pharmacies. But we could not afford them anymore. I had to beg my mother, almost forcing her to affiliate on the Social Security Fund because one of my medications is expensive (Lamotrigine). Finally I convinced her and she joined the CCSS. That was a blessing because after month my mother's symptoms worsened. Her dr. sent her to have some blood tests and the results came out bad, she  had a severe anemia and we did not know what was causing it. The dr. send her  with an oncologist and she had an ultrasound. The result revealed a tumor in the colon, and a sample was taken, it was malignant. The oncologist (a merchant of health) told us she needed an emergency operation  at the Catholic Hospital (private). We told him that she was assured by the CCSS, but the pseudo doctor said it would take months, there was no time (it was a vile lie, because the Costa Rican public hospitals reacts immediately to emergencies). He probably wanted money for his summer vacation. Ordeal began: we had to ask for a loan with the car as collateral to cope, to pay for services, to eat. My family was not able to support us financially. We seek a second opinion from a  recommended oncologist of the Social Security and actually told us that my mother's condition was serious but it was not a matter of days. The comings and goings began to the hospital, she did all the tests required for a person with cancer: CT, blood tests, X-rays, etc. .. It also initiated a strong conflict among the doctors as the merchant oncologist did not want to lose the opportunity to earn money.
Finally it was time and she was hospitalized. What stressed out my mother the most was the situation of the house. Also had a hard time getting used to the public hospital, never stopped being "The Countess". She was not looking forward to the fight against cancer, she was tired of so much suffering, so much stress. She has long wanted to leave. But the passage of time recovered a little encouragement. I remember her in her hospital room with hes Citroen shirt, she loved her little car. My grandmother and I visited her whenever we could, we brought the magazines that she loved (“Hola”) and also some books. The doctors advised her to put her affairs in order, but nothing, my mother was always a disaster with legal and bureaucratic issues.

Finally and after two weeks the operation was scheduled for a Monday. They prepared her, she was taken to the operating room but they had to suspend it. Again came the merchant of health saying he had to operate, so he could charge the operation, and he would argue that she was his outpatient. Oncology chief suspended the operation and rescheduled for next Thursday. The operation lasted several hours and was complicated. We found that in addition to the colon tumor she had 40% of the liver with cancer. She spent several days in intensive care living off the machines. They had to re-intervene it to stop the hemorrhage in the liver. They had to leave her belly open to periodically wipe the bleeding. She spent a couple of days in intensive care and again another operation was scheduled because the bowel which housed the colon tumor did not regenerate, they had to cut that piece. But that operation could not be performed, her vital signs were too weak to withstand another intervention. The die was cast. That Friday we were allowed to enter intensive care and in a few hours my mother left, left asleep, no pain .....

PD. In July, I have to start paying the interest on the house and the  amount is $ 1.165 usd to spare more legal trouble. I've lost the business of the house, but a couple of people are interested in buying it, but they need time for them to get bank financing. El Presente (6ta parte)/The Present (6th part)

The Present (6th part)

As it turns out, as I was saying, my mother gave in to the insistence of the man who was selling the house. The argument of the seller, as I said before, was appealing to her maternal instincts, her good heart, as the son of the seller contracted a substantial gambling debt and that meant jail or worse (I did not find out that information months later). In my village that kind of favors, the risk that my mother took is a priceless debt. My mother didn’t warned us that she had already made a decision. She spent all hes savings and signed an abusive  contract without any financial institution to back her up without any guarantees of any kind. She was at the mercy of this man whom my mother deposit her trust, big mistake. She only had money enough to pay the expenses (utilities, food) for about 2 months. She had absolut confidence in this man with whom she made a commitment to buy the house. Well, he said he was going to support, That he  would be patient because my mother had explained many times that the purchase of the house depended on the payment of money that was owed to her from a pension in Mexico. The case is that we moved into this  house at the end of October 2011.

I continued with my plan to become independent, so I attended many meetings of this coffee MLM company to learn the business. To make it short it was set to program your  hard drive of your brain with the information required to deliver the business to all your contacts, to anyone who got in your way. It was like putting "play" to a cd and say or write the same damn thing over and over again to infinity kind og “ad nauseam”. These trainings were accompanied with self improvement supermarket therapy. The funniest thing is that sometimes they put a video of the "coffee lifestyle" and dude appear driving a BMW in the French Riviera. Obviously that is very effective as it appeals to the desire of almost all human beings to have a life free from financial worries and if by the way you can live like the rich and famous, what could be better. Of course I wasn’t convinced by that “lifestyle" they were selling, I just wanted a decent income to devote to what I like: my job and my need to express myself as an artist, exercising, occasional affordable luxury and if possible conquer that woman I liked. The truth is that long ago my material aspirations are reduced to basics and a little more, nothing else. So my goal was to build a network of consumers of coffee with ganoderma (It is a good coffee and ganoderma it is very beneficial to health) and find a couple of natural sellers to my network. But I was clear from the beginning that such sales is not mine type of job, but I was willing to sacrifice a reasonable time to achieve the goal (how I remember the book "Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller). Well, I got to work hard on that.
2012 was beginning and I in a fit of greed, naivete and trust in the company leaders decided to do an "upgrade" that cost me $ 750. I already had the funding that my father had sent me. But my plans to become independent collapsed. My mother ran out of money and I was not going to leave her by herself. So the money I was going to spend to leave my mother I spent it on household expenses. Fortunately, with the change of home, I had to change the gym and there was Yoga and the instructor was just what I was looking for. So I continued with therapy, medication, exercise, had a "job" and had the Yoga factor. So the failure of my plans to become independent did not discouraged me, I simply postponed them. Also given the physical, mental and spiritual state I was in led me to have a more than bearable relationship with my mother. I was reborn again (as I've had many resurrections in this life), so I was full of love, without resentment, without blame or blaming  anyone else. I mean, I felt again that had the power of responsibility for my own life, my freedom. And without being  pretentious or condescending, I suddenly felt for my mother brotherly love, as she was my younger sister, so I was much easier to cope with her mood swings, stress about money, resentments, anger and sadness because of  the death of my brother; She could never overcome that. (To be continued)

El Presente (5ta parte)/The Present (Part 5)

El Presente (5ta parte)/The Present (Part 5)

The Present (Part 5)

I continued my routine of therapy, exercise, medications (stabilizer and antidepressant) and a healthy diet. Never had I felt so good physically, I think since sixth grade. I forgot to tell you that I am a smoker and consumed 10 to 15 cigarettes a day before the cardiovascular problem. I could reduce the dose to 3 or 4 a day. Smoked only the ones  that I really enjoyed: after lunch, another in the afternoon with coffee and finally the reflective one at night.

My mother and grandmother returned from Mexico. There was a fairly stable situation in financial terms. But I needed to get resources to become independent, because both my psychologist and I knew that living with my mother was not good for me; because my mother suffered from depression and neurosis, was very troubled, I feel she was emotionally immature, besides it was vital to retry independ myself, of course. The problem is that I still could not renew my residence (in fact yesterday I went to migration and they told me to wait another month, dammit). Some friends and relatives only spoke of the "call centers" and the truth is that I got the cramps just thinking about being cooped up in a cubicle for hours in a monotonous job. In any case I had no residence and both my psychologist and I resolved that it was not the  kind of work  I needed. I could be in risk of getting depressed.

A few days passed and I was very lively, so I started trying to seduce a school classmate. I sent her emails to ask her for suggestions about eating habits. I tried to get into her life. One day she invited me to a coffee business. I did not know what it was, but I would have bought her canned air.  So we attended to a business presentation and voila, I got in. Invested $ 550usd that I borrowed from my mother. And I thought I just killed two birds with one stone, I will get closer to the woman I liked and got a flexible job and it seemed a great opportunity and did not need residence. It was my first experience with a MLM company and gave them the benefit of the doubt.

I was excited and motivated. In those days my mother, brother and I went to see homes in the area and found the house in which I currently reside. There began the story of harassment between the dude of the house and my mother. But I still had the firm idea to become independent, so I asked my father to financed me with $5000usd from a savings of $ 30,000usd that it was supposed to be reserved for myself. And I thought it was time to take the risk and ask for a portion of the savings to take off. After explaining in detail the plan to my father and after the lecture he gave me about why i needed so much money, finally he agreed, but did not touch the money from the savings that were supposed to be meant for me, apparently he did it out of his personal savings, do not know actually.
Weeks passed, and I began to work hard in the multilevel-company business of ganoderma coffee. Surely many of you reading these lines received several invitations from me and saw multiple posts on FB about it. After a couple of months the dude convinced my mother to engage with the home despite warnings that my brother and I told her. But she had the support of my grandmother. About the same time I received the money I had asked my father. I invested $700usd more in the coffee business, as it seemed feasible at the time to earn between 3k to 2k per month. And also had frequent contact with the woman I liked. Things looked very well, but soon the plan went to hell, it was only a mirage. (To be continued).
